Take These 3 Steps to Make Sure Your Next Job Is Fulfilling

Finding a job is hard work, and it’s not something you want to do multiple times. If job seeking is becoming a vicious cycle for you, take note of these three steps to make sure your next job is fulfilling.

1.      Find a Company That Shares Your Values

What’s important to you? More to the point – What would you like your employer to say is important to them? Perhaps you want to work with a company that prides itself on being an asset to its community. Maybe you’re looking for a company who serves a particular type of customer. Or perhaps you want to work for a company that puts building its business front and center.

Whatever is important to you, look for a company that shares your values. To see if your priorities match up, check out their corporate website or read their last letter to their shareholders. That should give you an idea of what’s at the heart of what they do.

2.      Discover Which of Your Strengths Make You Feel the Best When You Use Them on the Job

Think about the last job you loved. What did you do there? Were there certain tasks that you did well – and did performing these tasks bring you joy? If so, then look for these tasks in the responsibilities of a job description. Doing things that you’re good at will probably make your next job more fulfilling – and make you want to stay there longer.

3.      Find More Joy Off the Clock

Few people find all the fulfillment they need at work – even if they really love their job. That’s why it’s important to practice self-care and set aside time to do things you really enjoy. Pursue a hobby, get in shape, build friendships – whatever brings you joy. You may find some of that joy seeps into your work.
