Keeping Your Employees Focused on 2015: Motivation Techniques

You and your team are working on a project. But something seems to be missing. You have all fallen into a routine. You are in a rut. People seem to be going through the motions more than anything.

If this is the case, it is time to work on some motivational tactics, things that will put some life and energy back into people, strategies that will get them to put their total effort into their work. Here are a few examples of some motivation techniques you can use.

1. Be a role model.

As a team leader, it will be tough to get your troops motivated if you aren’t motivated yourself. And you need to show your enthusiasm. It’s contagious. You need to set the pace. You need to roll up your sleeves and dive in yourself, to show how the work should be done. You will earn the respect of your troops, as well as firing them up.

2. Get to know your people.

You need to have the trust of your workers. To build that trust, you need to know what gets them going, what they like about their work, and what they dislike. You need to learn more about them, their interests and hobbies. In other words, you need to take a real interest in them. It will not go unnoticed.

If you want them to trust you and be honest with you, you need to reciprocate. Building that trust is necessary also when you need to coach or train them.

3. Set goals.

This is something that usually doesn’t get the emphasis that it deserves. Setting goals is important. It gives you a gauge for seeing what you have accomplished. It sets a standard of accountability. It helps you to focus on what it important. And it is a great motivator – it gives you and your team something to work toward, something you all consider meaningful.

4.Celebrate your achievements.

As you move toward your ultimate goal, you will pass milestones along the way. You should celebrate your progress and praise your team for what they have accomplished. This will also go a long way toward motivating your team.
