Work predominately in a warehouse or distribution center setting? Want to make yourself even more attractive to an employer?
Then consider taking an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety training course.
California is one of just 26 states with a state-approved OSHA program (administered via Cal/OSHA). As such it administers several different types of safety training courses, some of them very short (just a few hours in length), with other courses leading to a bachelor’s, master’s, or even doctorate degree.
If you’re interested in taking one or more of these courses, your first stop should be to the OSHA Training Institute Education Centers page of OSHA’s website. This is the hub for the OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Centers, which are a network nationwide of non-profit organizations that have been authorized by OSHA to provide these occupational safety and health training opportunities to both private and public sector workers.
There are two authorized OTI Education Centers in Southern California, one is at the University of California at San Diego, but the other – and the one closest to those who live and/or work in the Inland Empire – is located at Cal State Dominguez Hills, College of Extended Education, which is the only branch of the CSU system to be awarded this designation.
It’s here that you can earn an Advanced Safety & Health Certificate and a Certificate in Healthcare Facilities.
If Dominguez Hills is too far for you to travel, the campus offers classes in several other Southland cities, including three locations in Riverside.
It’s at these locations that you can take short training courses in workplace safety. Follow this link to see all the courses offered by Cal State Dominguez Hills (and the course locations).
If you’re looking for very short courses on workplace safety, including online, there are several for-profit companies that offer them. Try Googling “OSHA Safety Course California” to find them.
Be aware: OSHA does not approve any providers. What it does authorize is that training providers can offer 10- and 30-hour training programs online. Many – if not most – of these companies are legitimate providers; just do some due diligence/research before registering with any of them.
