The Social Recruiting Boom

Is the traditional job board dead?

You might easily think so given the dozens of social recruiting sites that have cropped up in the last year or two.

Social media increasingly are becoming players when it comes to recruiting new employees. Facebook, for example, has announced its own job board. What’s more, Forbes.com in November reported that Facebook itself has said that “half of employers in the U.S. use the social network during their hiring process. Of those companies already using Facebook to engage with customers, 54 percent anticipate using it more heavily in their recruitment efforts in the future.”

What’s more, other businesses have come out with social media apps or websites that help people either find jobs or find employees.

Here are a few sites or tools for recruiters/HR managers we found interesting (courtesy of a June Forbes.com article):

Jobvite is a firm that provides recruiters with tools including referral recruiting and applicant tracking tools.

EmployInsight collects candidate data and offers in-line assessments online.

Bullhorn provides applicant tracking, candidate sourcing, social recruiting help, and more.

SmartRecruiters is a free cloud-based applicant tracking and social recruiting system. You can post jobs to Facebook with one click.

Work4Labs  lets you create a Facebook recruiting site, something akin to the career pages LinkedIn allows you to produce.

HireVue lets you interview candidates on video captured on a PC or phone.

What can this mean for you? Well, in addition to continually staying on top of online recruiting trends, the fact that these companies “mine” millions of what the Forbes.com article called “data elements about candidate activity, history, and even psychology using data available in the Web,” means that the “job matching game” will be easier for both recruiters and job candidates.

Does your company use Facebook or another social media outlet to look for candidates? Do you also use LinkedIn? If so, does your approach between the two differ significantly?

We encourage you to use the power of social media in your recruiting efforts. We also encourage you to call upon the recruiting experts at Arrow Staffing when you need workers for temporary, temporary-to-hire or direct-hire opportunities at your Inland Empire company. We look forward to hearing from you.
