Love It or Leave It? When It’s Time to Leave Your Job

Although it would be ideal, it is unrealistic to think you will enjoy every minute of your job. It is entirely normal to have bad days or not enjoy specific tasks. These typically are not cause enough to jump ship to a different company or a whole new career. How do you know if you should love your job or leave it? There are some clear signs that you can’t ignore that signal it is time to move on in your career

Consistently Dreading Going to Work

Everybody has mornings where they do not feel like going to work, but it should not be an everyday occurrence. If the feeling of dread of going to work is so overwhelming that it consumes your day, then it is time to consider making a change. It is not good for your physical, emotional, or mental health to always be upset or depressed about going to work.

A Lack of Room for Growth

Knowing that there is no room for growth in your current position can make you feel as if there is no purpose to your work. It would be best if you did not waste time in a job with no opportunity for advancement. This is a sign that it is time to find a job where you can grow.

You Feel Undercompensated

Unfortunately, it is common over time for your workload and responsibilities to increase while your pay remains the same. If you have talked to your boss about a raise to match your new responsibilities unsuccessfully, then it is time to find a job where you are appropriately compensated.

Unsupportive Co-Workers

You are not going to get along with every single person you work with or every supervisor. However, if your co-workers and boss are unsupportive to the point that it hinders your ability to do your job well, it is a sign to look for a position where you feel supported and appreciated.

Not a Fit for the Company Culture

Each business has its own company culture. It is not a one-size-fits-all. Every company’s culture is not going to be the right fit for you. Maybe you took the job under the assumption that the atmosphere would be a match for you, or perhaps you had to take the job to support your family. If the culture isn’t a fit for you, it is time to find a job at a company with the type of atmosphere you work best in.

Do You Hate What You Do?

There isn’t anything worse than hating your job. If you despise what you do, make a change. You spend at least 8 hours a day, five days a week at work, you do something that you enjoy!
