How Will Recruiting Evolve in 2015?

The economy is gathering steam. Unemployment is dropping. What do these developments portend for 2015 in terms of recruiting new talent? Read on to find out a few of the predicted trends that recruiting specialists see for the upcoming year.

1. The balance of power begins to shift more toward candidates.

When unemployment was high, it was a buyer’s market. But now that the unemployment rate is dropping and the economy is picking up, workers will hold more of the cards. They now have more than just one option. So to recruit effectively, companies will have to change strategies. Firms will have to retool, from focusing on evaluation to hiring quickly to grab the best talent. Rather than expect candidates to do all the selling, companies will have to sell themselves to the candidates, as more candidates begin to question why they should work for a certain employer.

2. Mobile technology begins to dominate.

This year will see more companies using technology like mobile phones for recruiting. This mobile technology will be a place where people can apply for jobs, where companies can communicate with prospective employees, where companies can sell their brand, where job hunters can look at job descriptions and job postings.

Eventually, some recruiting specialists see mobile technology as a place where companies will conduct interviews, do skill assessments, and generate referrals.

3. Videos will become a major element of recruiting.

Online video now makes up about half of all mobile traffic. People like to watch video. For companies to stay competitive, they will have to use this technology for all aspects of recruiting – for branding, job descriptions, and job postings. Video has a distinct advantage over pictures in that it can convey a more dynamic and compelling message to viewers.

4. A move away from resumes and more toward social media profiles for hiring.

This is another domino effect of the competition for talent. As companies more and more look to recruit passive candidates – those people who are currently employed and top performers, but not actively looking for a new job – businesses will begin moving away from resumes to save time.

Most of the top candidates companies are interested in don’t have the time to continually update their resumes. And requiring them to do so just takes up too much time. Companies will instead look more toward social media sites like LinkedIn to look at people’s profiles.
