Why Your Company’s LinkedIn Page Is So Important

Consider this possibility: Your company’s LinkedIn page could be more important than you company’s website.

That’s according to a blog post at the UndercoverRecruiter.com last year which claimed just that.

Why, because, in a nutshell, if you’re an HR manager or recruiter at your company and you look at LinkedIn profiles, you can probably bet that the people you looked at will look at your profile. As well as your company’s profile.

If they do, what will they see? Nothing? A little something (which is almost as bad as nothing)?

Or will they see a complete LinkedIn page, one that has Company Updates, Products and Services pages?

Is it a presence that will help them see you as the great place to work that you are? Or not?

What’s more, don’t even think that your firm’s clients won’t be looking at your company’s LinkedIn page. And if they see nothing or just the basics, what does that tell them about your firm? That you take you’re the reputation/brand of your products and services seriously?

The author of the article, Lisa Jones, a director at Barclay Jones, a recruiting consultancy firm, offers these suggestions on how to improve your company’s LinkedIn presence:

  • Check to see who’s said they “work” for you. Apparently, any Joe or Jane can claim to be an employee or former employee and link through their profile to you. Does your company’s page “accurately reflect your workforce?”
  • Create Products and Services pages. Steer clear of what you sell, Jones recommends. Instead, “talk to me about your outcomes and what you are looking for. … advertise your charitable causes, your mantra, news about your business – help me buy-in to you.
  • When it comes to company updates, posting available jobs is great, but don’t stop there. Don’t forget, potential clients also are looking at your page. So give them useful information – come across as a thought leader/expert. Or, as Jones advises: “can you publish sector information, demonstrate your specialisms and approach?”

A few other reasons your LinkedIn page is so important:

  • It tends to be more up-to-date than your website. (When was the last time your company updated its website?)
  • Your LinkedIn page offers real recommendations and testimonials, not just the ones chosen and perhaps edited by your firm’s marketing team.
