e-Learning: the Future of Learning for Industrial Workers

If you’re looking for a way to train your industrial workers inexpensively, take a look at e-learning.

A December 2001 article on the site e-Learning.com discusses “E-Learning for the Industrial Worker,” and reports that e-learning, especially for compliance and safety training “ensures that your entire workforce receives consistent, documented safety and compliance training.”

The article quotes adult learning theorist Malcolm Knowles, who says there are nine components to look for when researching a good e-learning program .They are:

Does theprogram have clear learning objectives? These will help make sure the learner knows right away what he or she is supposed to be learning and how it should apply to their worklife.

Do the lessons that focus on those stated learning objectives? Look for courses that are broken down into clearly defined lessons and with course pages that have clearly defined titles.

Is the content tailored to the students? Reading and comprehensive levels should be taken into account for all levels of experience and reading abililty.

Does the course provide an engaging curriculum such as video, graphics, even animation?

Does the training provide real-world examples/scenarios?

But perhaps the real benefit of online learning is how convenient and inexpensive it can be, compared to the more “traditional” training options.

Schedulilng and traveling is minimized considerably, making it much easier to accommodate production and work times. Training online also is more self-paced and allows the worker to start using the knowledge he or she is gaining right away, perhaps even that day!

Have you brought online compliance and safety learning to your Inland Empire company? If so, how has it helped? We’d love to hear. Send your comments and experiences to Arrow Staffing today!
